2020 Latin American Society for Immunodeficiencies Summer School in Primary Immunodeficiencies 

 

The  Latin American Society for Immunodeficiencies Summer School is proud to present an overview of our 2020 “LASID Summer School for Primary Immunodeficiencies”. 

Supporting an educational activity not only offers a more rewarding experience for attendees, but it maximizes your company’s visibility.  

Objective 

The objective of the  2020 LASID Summer School for Primary Immunodeficiencies is to offer selected applicants the opportunity to participate in an immersive environment prepared to learn, create networks and exchange experiences on primary immunodeficiencies (PID). 

When and where?

The event is programmed to be held in Lima, Peru on August 20 – 22th 2020. The selected venue is Hotel Pullman Lima San Isidro. This hotel is  located in the Lima’s financial center, 30 minutes away from the airport, and 20 minutes away from Lima’s historical center and present an ideal structure with small meeting rooms and excellent meals area to create the immersive environment necessary for this event. 

 

Purpose themes 

 

 

 

 

The program aims to enhance the knowledge and stimulate the discussion about actual topics in primary immunodeficiencies. The methodology consists in case presentations performed by selected applicants opened for discussion among all participants fomented by designated faculties for each session. At the end of the session, a faculty presents a lecture about the topics present in the clinical cases to overview the discussed ideas.

  • Newborn screening in PIDs 
  • Agammaglobulinemia 
  • Common Variable Immunodeficiency 
  • Specific Antibodies Defects 
  • Combined Immunodeficiencies 
  • Phagocyte Defects 
  • Autoimmune manifestations in PIDs 
  • Secondary immunodeficiencies 
  • Immunoglobulin replacement therapy 
    • Intravenous  
    • Subcutaneous 
  • Other therapies for PID 

 

Attendees 

The LASID Educational Committee will select 35 applicants from Latin American LASID participating countries, among young physicians and or biochemists in the last years of their immunology training who have showed interest in the PID field. 

 

Preliminary Faculties 

Faculties were selected due to their expertise in the areas and also their abilities to promote the discussions and interact with all attendees. Our preliminary selected faculties are:

  • Lorena Regairaz (Argentina) 

 

And our international (outside Latin American) faculties:

  • Eli Hadad (Canada) 
  • Hans Ochs (USA) 

 

We also will invite as Senior Mentors to help the event organization and discussions Professors Ricardo Sorensen (USA) and Antonio Condino Neto (Brazil). 

 

Final Considerations

This event is considered essential to spread the PID awareness, training young people to improve their abilities in diagnosing and treating PID patients, and stimulate them to keep working in this field. This will be the 6th LASID Summer School. Previously, LASID has organized very fruitful events in  Sao Paulo Brazil (2006), Costa do Sauipe Brazil (2010), Campinas Brazil (2014), Cancun  Mexico (2017), and  Medellin Colombia (2018).

Attendees

Applicants should:

  • Be actively involved in the field.
  • Be younger than 35 years of age.
  • Be on their final years of training or early career.
  • Be Junior members of LASID at application. (application online on website)

 Application process: 

  • Submit an interesting PID case to discuss with faculty and peers (1 page abstract in pdf and 3 ppt slides)
  • Submit a letter of intention and career plans (1 page pdf)
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from your director or mentor. (1 page pdf)
  • Submit a CV (1 page pdf)
  • All documents should be submitted in this page (see below)
